It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bonnie Van Muldrow, who left us far too soon on May 14, 2024, at the age of 56. Bonnie was a beacon of light, love, and generosity in our lives, and her loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Bonnie was born in New York City on May 21, 1967, and from an early age, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping others. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was active in numerous congregations throughout her life, always emphasizing her faith with good cheer, humility, and love.
Her compassion extended beyond the walls of religious institutions. Bonnie was a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and support through her work with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Her dedication to NAMI’s mission was fueled by her deep empathy and understanding, as she supported individuals affected by mental illness. Her efforts provided comfort and hope to many in her community.
Friends and family remember Bonnie as a bringer of light to every room she entered. Her presence was a gift; she was generous with her time and resources, unceasingly positive, and ever grateful for the blessings in her life. Bonnie’s heart was full of love, and she shared it freely with everyone around her.
Bonnie was pre-deceased by: her parents William and Bobbie Jean Muldrow (nee McThay); and her husband, Davevina Rankin. She is survived by: her only child Mrs. Iesha Faye Rankin (Jordan Saldivar); her only grandchild Logan Saldivar; two sisters, Pamela Cockle-Williams, and Debbie Hayes (Phyllis Price); one nephew Jackie III, and four nieces: Dava, Dana, Adrienne, and Jessica. She also leaves behind countless friends, especially her boyfriend Toriano, and her close friend Karen, as well as extended family members who will miss her deeply.
Bonnie’s favorite color was pink, and she loved all forms of music - pop, gospel, R&B, and rock. Bonnie valued spending time with friends and family, attending NAMI functions, watching movies and going out to eat.
A service to celebrate Bonnie’s life will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 10:30 am at Oak Park Temple, 1235 N. Harlem Ave, Oak Park, IL, followed by her burial at Forest Home Cemetery, 863 S. Des Plaines, Forest Park, IL. The family requests that any donations be made in Bonnie’s honor to NAMI Metro Suburban in Oak Park, IL.
Bonnie’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She taught us the true meaning of love, kindness, and selflessness. Though she has been taken to her rest too soon, her light will continue to shine brightly in our memories and the lives she so profoundly impacted.
