Granville Neal McNish

It is with great sadness the Family of Neal McNish, announce his passing away while at home in Oak Park, IL on May 12, 2023. He was 75 years old.

Neal is survived by his daughter, Kathryn "Katie" McNish, Brooklyn, NY, and son, John "Jack" McNish, Humboldt Park, Chicago, IL.

Also surviving is his brother, Kent (Ellen) McNish of Franklin, TN, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his loving companion of the last 6 1/2 years, Mary Kathryn Jordan of Atlanta, GA. Neal is also survived by his former spouse and children's mother, Kathryn Heavey, Forest Park, IL.

Neal recently spent his time traveling with Mary Kathryn to 16 states, four foreign countries, numerous national and state parks, museums, botanical gardens, and various family weddings and events. He was anticipating with great joy the upcoming wedding of his daughter Katie, in December, 2023.

Neal is preceded in death by his parents Sarah and C.O "Chic" McNish of Nashville, TN.

Born in August of 1947, Neal graduated from Two Rivers HS, Nashville, TN, 1965, East Tennessee State University, cum laude, 1969, and subsequently served 3 years in the United States Army after graduating with honors from the Infantry Officer Candidate Class, 14-70, Fort Benning, GA. His civilian career spanned decades working in sales for various national book publishers.

Neal enjoyed volunteering in his community working in a local food coop and at the Oak Park Public Library. He loved reading, playing bridge, following the Chicago Cubs, and walking daily.

Memorial services will be at 11 AM, Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Donelson Heights United Methodist Church, 84 Fairway Dr., Donelson, TN with a private spreading of ashes.
