Ida Steeg Obituary

Ida M. Steeg nee Manske, 89, of LaGrange formerly of Forest Park.
Beloved wife of Arthur. Loving mother of Trudy Roznos and Monica Steeg.
Adored grandmother of Jason Roznos. Cherished great grandmother of 4 and great-great grandmother of 4. Dearest sister of Wanda Busing and the late Roman Manske. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Ida Marta Manske was born in a German colony in Poland on her parent's wheat farm. The oldest of three children, Ida was smart, beautiful and athletic. Ida and her siblings enjoyed school, sports, playing in their orchards and listening to scary old wives tales as told by the farm workers.

Life changed for Ida and her family when war forced their evacuation by covered wagon to Germany, a country they had never seen. Her father had been drafted, leaving Ida's mother and the children to make their way alone on the dangerous journey.

They arrived in Germany and began a new life. Ida met her husband -to -be, Arthur, at a dance for young people and they married shortly thereafter. They were married 71 years.Times were difficult in Germany after the war and Ida and Art now had one child. They decided to immigrate to the USA and set out for Oklahoma where they lived for 6 months. The hot climate in early May was difficult for the red haired and pale skinned Ida so they moved to Chicago and settled into life in the city. A second child was born in Chicago. Years later saw a move to Forest Park, grown kids and a grandchild, then great grandchildren, then great- great grandchildren. Ida was "Grandma" to many Forest Park area children.

Ida was a wonderful homemaker who loved gardening, organizing, and keeping a beautiful, spotless home. Over the years, Ida also worked outside the home and particularly enjoyed bookkeeping. She insisted on balancing to the penny.

In later years Ida enjoyed summers in Michigan and winters in Florida. Their home in Forest Park was eventually sold and they lived in La Grange, IL with their daughter.
Ida Steeg passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a difficult battle with Lymphoma and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
