Lela Grimble Obituary

Lela Caronina Grimble was born on October 2, 1942, to Issac and Theodoria Feaster, in Chicago, IL. She departed this life surrounded by family on September 11, 2024.

Lela gave her life to Christ at an early age and was an active member of St. John Church Baptist in Chicago. This is also whereshe met Theodore “Ted” Grimble, Jr. and they married on September 28, 1969. From this union came three children, Theodore III “Tres”, Antoine, and Caronina. They were married for over 30 years, until Ted’s death in December 2005.

After the birth of their first child, the family moved to Maywood, IL and became members of Second Baptist Church where Lela was a deaconess, sang in the choir, and served on many committees and boards. She later became a member of Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park, IL.

A proud graduate of Wendell Phillips High School, Lela went on to attend The University of Illinois and Roosevelt University, where she received her BS degree in Medical Technology. Lela worked as a Laboratory Supervisor at Ravenswood Hospital for many years, working the third shift so that she could be home during the day to play an active part in her family’s life during the day. Lela also worked part-time at Gottlieb Hospital as a Medical Technologist. Once her youngest went off to college, Lela enrolled in Trinity Christian College, where she ultimately earned her master’s degree in psychology.

Lela served in various roles on the PTO while all three of her children attended Proviso East High School. She was at the school so much that most people thought that she worked there, and she received an honorary diploma when her youngest child graduated. She was at every football game, basketball game, volleyball game and softball game. Although she only had three athletes, she rooted just as loud for all their friends.

Once retired from the medical field, Lela started her own business, HomeHeart, to provide care for her elderly mother suffering from dementia. It was an assisted living service that provided in-home care for those in need of assistance.

She was a fierce advocate for the Alzheimer's Association, and so we will be raising funds on her behalf to continue the fight against this disease: http://act.alz.org/goto/lelacgrimble #ENDALZ #WalktoEndAlz #walktoendalzheimers #Walk2EndAlz

Lela leaves behind to cherish her memory, her three children Tres Grimble (Terren), Antoine Grimble (Tiana) and Caronina Grimble (Johanna);five grandchildren, Brianna, Brittney, Aubrielle, Akayla, Antoine II and Amelia; a great grandson, David; her brother, Teddy (Donna) and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
