Margaret Jean Smith (nee Fleming), age 98, of Forest Park IL . Born in Rochester New York August 23rd, 1926. Passed away in Algonquin on March 23, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Smith. Loving mother of Barbara Oberg, Deborah (Richard) Hinz, Timothy (Jill) Smith and Daniel (Elizabeth) Smith. Dearest grandmother to Scott (Megan) Oberg, Sarah (Barry) McDonald and Lisa (Drew) Keefe, Daniel (Natalie) Hinz and Kimberly Hinz, Kellen (Jeanmarie) Smith, and Kristen Smith (Dave Polizzi), Katie (Barrett) Shay, Amy Smith, Mark (Katie) Smith, and Annie (Tyler) Roebke. Fond Great Grandmother to 24 great grandchildren. Loving sister of the late Gerald (Kay) Fleming, Rita (William) Kramer, Edna Mae (Clancy) Klimas, and Eugene (Irene) Fleming of Rochester New York.Sister-in-law to Eugene (Betty) Smith, Mae (Joe) Wenskus, and Phil (Marge) Smith. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Margaret will be most remembered as a woman of great kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her husband, Thomas, her children, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Margaret’s biggest job was raising four children, but she also generously volunteered at church and worked many years at Sears Roebuck. Margaret was a great cook and hosted memorable family holiday parties full of laughter and shenanigans. She loved playing bridge with her Forest Park bridge ladies and enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Margaret was a prayerful woman of deep faith and was actively involved at St. Bernardine’s Catholic Parish for over 70 years. Margaret was blessed with a long life, left a great legacy, and is now with her loved ones and the Lord.
Visitation Friday (Mar. 28) 9:00 - 10:00 am at St. Bernardine Church 7246 W. Harrison St. Forest Park where Mass will be held at 10:00 am. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
