Nora Cathleen Amey (née O’Connor), May 7, 1977– June 4th, 2025
Nora was a lifelong resident of Oak Park, Illinois. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, she touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity, and love of music. Nora was a classically trained pianist who shared her talent by teaching piano to many children over the years.
More than anything, Nora cherished her role as a wife and mother. She spent over 20 years with the love of her life, Mark, and they were married for 17 of those years. She adored her four children Fiona, O’Connor, Sean, and Ginny with her whole heart.
Nora had a special bond with her mother, Maureen, and spoke to her every day, often for over an hour, despite living just eight blocks apart. She was one of five siblings and shared a close connection with her sisters and brother, who will miss her every day. Nora also maintained lifelong friendships, especially with those from her childhood on Wisconsin Avenue, who will feel this loss profoundly. She shared an especially close bond with her best friend, Liz McNeilly.
Proud of her Irish Catholic heritage, Nora came from a large, loving family filled with aunts, uncles, and cousins. She spent 20 years working with the American Friends of Versailles, where she developed a deep appreciation for the country of France.
Nora was preceded in death by her father, Martin O’Connor Jr., her father-in-law, Ralph Amey, and sister in law Cynthia Clay pool. She is survived by her husband, Mark Amey; her mother, Maureen O’Connor; her siblings: Brigid (James) Sciaccotta, Maureen (Brian Schabow) O’Connor, Alana O’Connor, and Brendan (Kelly Diaz) O’Connor; her in-laws: Steve and Anne Claypool, Eunice Howe, Steve and Kay Amey, and Jennifer and Michael Franco; and her cherished nieces and nephews: Miranda and Teagan Amey, Evan and Amanda Garcia, and Dylan, Reilly, Mickey, Marty and Michael O’Connor.
Nora’s life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass at Ascension Church on Saturday, June 14th, at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home on Friday, June 13th from 3:00pm until 7:00 pm.
